Do you ever need reminding about information you already know? Then, once someone says it, you realize you’ve heard it many times. You might say, “Wait a minute, I knew that. How could I forget?” Hebrews 2:1 says, “We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” What did we hear? Jesus, the son of God, became a man, lived a perfect life despite great persecution, and then died for our sins so that, in Christ, we could be free from condemnation and live eternally in glory with Him. What an immeasurable gift!
But it’s easy to let other things consume us and overlook the most essential truth in our lives because we live in a world filled with busyness, stress, and false information. We require constant cues to bring us back to our mission to follow the example of the kind and loving servant we have in Jesus. To be a consistent light for Jesus, it helps to use tools, such as the power of the Holy Spirit, God’s word, prayer, and accountability with other believers.
While we don’t completely forget who we are, we can drift for a few days or, if it becomes a pattern, longer. During a busy week, for example, we might switch to timely work stuff before devotions and prayer and then not get back to them. The likely result is an attitude that does not reflect Jesus. Taking a step back and starting fresh might help.
For me, reciting key memory verses and continuing to pray work well. In the hustle and bustle of each day, what do you do to keep yourself grounded in the truth? Please share in the comments.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and patience in this busy place. Through the Holy Spirit, Lord, help us stay mindful of our faith. Guide us in prayer throughout our day so that we keep your constant love and presence at the forefront of every moment. Remind us that we are lights in a dark world, here to serve others and share your love. We praise you for your faithfulness and ask for all this in the name of our precious Savior. Amen. #MotivationalMonday @The Girl Read Your Bible Study Group
