Establishing a routine is important for me to move forward in a number of areas of my life. Starting my day with prayer, Bible reading and devotions is crucial as my relationship with God is key to everything else. Next, I write morning pages, something I started while reading The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron during a class with my writing group. When I started the morning pages routine, I honestly thought the process was silly. I was wrong. Writing pages of random thoughts and ideas each morning works well for a number of reasons. I end up coming up with so many different ideas for my writing and most importantly, I am writing each morning. It is a start. I have learned to love my morning pages. When I began teaching an online early morning Italian class a couple of weeks ago, I decided that I would have to get up earlier so that I could continue my already established routine of prayer and devotions and morning pages before the class. So far so good. Next, I need to work on establishing a more intense writing routine with plans for submitting article ideas to magazines and to work on two books that I have been planning to write for a long time. I am an extremely busy “retired” person and very excited about all of the opportunities I have. Known for my habit of doing “too” many things, I am continuing the trend during retirement and loving every minute.
Thank you for sharing about the morning pages! I like that idea!
